Dr. Douglas Hendrix Sr. is the Interim Superintendent/CEO of Clayton County Public Schools. He is a veteran public education leader whose more than 30-year career reflects steady service at the intersection of instruction, governance, and community responsibility. Raised in Gainesville, Georgia, his journey from modest beginnings to senior district leadership shaped a deep commitment to equity, disciplined execution, and ethical public service. Entering education as a middle school teacher, Dr. Hendrix advanced through school and district leadership roles – serving Clayton County Public Schools in multiple leadership capacities – including School Principal, Chief Human Resources Officer, Assistant Superintendent, and, most recently, Senior Deputy Superintendent and Chief of Staff, where he acted as the district’s principal advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Education. In these roles, he earned recognition for improving academic outcomes, strengthening organizational systems, and guiding the district through previous periods of severe fiscal challenge, enrollment decline, and heightened external oversight. Dr. Hendrix is widely respected for his clarity of vision, calm leadership in crisis, and belief that public education—when led with integrity—remains a powerful engine of opportunity. A published author of Leaders of the New School: Advancing Public Education from the Industrial Age to the Innovation Era, Dr. Hendrix is also recognized for his community engagement and public service. He holds degrees from Fort Valley State University, Columbus State University, and Nova Southeastern University. Above all, his work is grounded in stewardship, influenced by family, faith, and an enduring commitment to turning hope into certainty for the children and the communities he serves. At the center of his life is his family—his wife and two children—who remain his greatest joy and his constant reminder of the purpose behind his leadership.
